As your sacred calling matures in its emergent state and you know that soon the birthing will be inevitable there are five areas that must be addressed and actualized for the passage from emergent to manifestation to be as smooth as a transition as possible.
Actually the transition is really a seesaw experience. First comes the instinctual push from the inside to get something out there – talk to friends, write a blog, post on social media, craft a story, paint a painting, design a business card, rent an office or store front – and then the undertow sets in with the first wave of ‘Wait a minute…what have I done?” “What will people think?” “Who am I anyway to say these things…I’m not original”
This back and forth inner tug of war is a crucial time to make sure you have the inner tools in place to work with yourself to clear away all the old baggage from the past – beliefs/judgments/limitations/status quo conditioning/fears that can derail you from continuing to take your inspired steps.
“Ultimately, work on self is inseparable from work in the world. Each mirrors the other; each is a vehicle for the other. When we change ourselves, our values and actions change as well. When we do work in the world, internal issues arise that we must face or be rendered ineffective.”(Charles Eisenstein)
Teaching #1 – Know who you are
Bringing forward your sacred calling – what is most precious to your heart and soul – requires you to know ALL of who you are and to be able to work with yourself in a loving compassionate way. Many times when you raise the bar and go for what you truly want and are called to do some disowned part of you jumps out of the proverbial closet and says ‘Hello, you haven’t seen me in awhile” ….and your reaction stops you in your tracks.
Here’s a short personal account that illustrates how parts of us can show up surprising us and demanding to be addressed.
“It was the weirdest thing. I was all geared up to take my business to the next level and wham. During one of my writing times up came this memory from the past of one of my deepest darkest heartbreaks. Here I was turning 50 years old and I couldn’t stop thinking about what happened when I was in my mid twenties.
Not only did the memories come flooding back but so did all of this shame and grief. It swamped any forward movement that I had planned to take and would not budge until I addressed what I had conveniently locked away so many years ago.
Now, after months of writing and using tools that I learned to help clear all the self blame and shame I felt, I can finally get my head above all the deep emotions and see what was really going on here.
To move out in the world with more heart passion about my blessing and my sacred calling I had to have that part of my heart back. To be able to serve my clients from a deeper place of witness I had to stand against the raging storm of emotions inside me and deal.”
I speak about this part of moving from sacred calling to sacred ambition in this 11 min excerpt from a radio interview with Alan Hutner on the Transitions Radio Magazine.
It’s important to end this bit of teaching with the reminder that your inner work is not completely done until you take your last breath. It is folly to say that you have already done the work you need to do. So be wise, stay present with yourself. Have a tool box of inner tools that are proven to help shift and clear what no longer serves you.
And celebrate! You are blessing the world around you as you set yourself free!
